#7 The Elves and the Shoemaker



Vocabulary:
1.    finicky (adj.)
(1) too concerned with unimportant details and small things that you like or dislike
e.g. She’s very finicky about what she eats.
(2) needing to be done very carefully, while paying attention to small details
e.g. This is a finicky job.
2. leather (n.)
animal skin that has been treated to preserve it, and is used for making shoes, bags, etc
e.g. The inside of the bag was lined with soft leather.
3. craft (v.)
to make something using a special skill, especially with your hands
e.g. Each doll is crafted individually by specialists.
4. tiptoe (v.)
to walk quietly and carefully on your toes, so that nobody hears you
e.g. His mother tiptoed into the room.
5. dash off (phrase)
(1) to leave somewhere very quickly
e.g. Harry dashed off before she had a chance to thank him.
(2) to write or draw something very quickly
e.g. She dashed off a quick letter.
Short description: A poor shoemaker who was kind to people in the village couldn’t earn enough money to make shoes even though he worked hard every day. At last he had nothing left but leather for one pair of shoes, then he cut out the leathers and wished to begin to make tomorrow. In the morning, there stood the shoes already made, upon the table. He and his wife found that these shoes were made by elves. When it is close to Christmas, he and his wife decided to give a gift in return, after that they lived a very happy life as did the elves.

Class : Improving Your Business Through a Culture of Health School : Harvard University Feelings : I have never heard about the Open Courseware so this is the first time that I get to know more the website. Some of the courses are too difficult for me to understand and they are not related to the subjects that we learn in school so I choose the easier one that I can understand more easily. There are various subjects that you can choose and the caption is at the right side of the video which can help me know what the professor is talking about.
